Deathnote p. 1-128
To be honest, I was a little nervous to read Deathnote at first. Reading isn't my favorite thing to do in the first place, and comic books and anime are a completely new genre for me as well. It didn't seem like anything I'd be interested in. Now 128 pages in, this genre isn't necessarily my favorite but I really like the story line and I think it's a cool and unique way of reading.
I think the story really started to take off at chapter 2 when this new L character that nobody knows is introduced. When L set up Light and pretended he was Linden L. Taylor to see if Kira would kill him, I thought that was pretty clever. L is also doing a good job so far at making connections and figuring out who this Kira person actually is. When I was reading it, I actually compared L to Wade from Ready Player One for a second because they're both anonymous people and no one actually knows their real identity, and they're both really smart people and I just feel like they think alike in that way.
I think the turning point in this section or the 'climax' is on page 98. when Light says "Welcome home dad" and we see that his dad is the guy that works with the NPA. The picture of Light and his dad takes up an entire page as well, so I feel like it's a very important connection to make and the author wanted to make it well known that Light was the son of someone working with the NPA. This plot twist leaves me excited to see what's going to happen next in Deathnote.

It seems like reading DeathNote was the first experience with mangas for a lot of people! I think it's really awesome that everyone is trying something new and getting out of their comfort zone, myself included. I also think L is a super interesting character! It's kind of like a battle of wits between L and Light and whoever loses could very well end up dead. I'm also curious as to whether or not Light is going to actually kill his family if they begin to suspect or threaten him. Light is super unpredictable and at this point I can really relate to Ryuk: lets sit back and watch what happens!
ReplyDeleteI do not read as much either, well except for now due to school, and I am glad that the book choices are not mind-numbing. This is also my first time reading graphic novel, the backwards stuff gets me a little bit, though I feel I am catching on pretty quickly. I actually like to make up my own reading words when there are no words in the panels, so I can keep the reading going, even though the words are not there. Pictures can tell a thousand words or maybe more. Thus, helping me relate the pictures to the panels, as well as the original text itself. Now, this book is not something I am too excited to read and I am on page 303 so far, but at least it is interesting enough for me to not doze off. Not to offend anyone who likes it either, honesty is my policy.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, that was kind of neat how you related Wade to L and it actually makes sense to me, just had to say that. Anyways, L totally got me and I was surprised to find out that it was not actually him, for sure clever. Both Light and L are intelligent in their own ways, but as everyone knows, there can only be one true winner to any outcome. Even though I am not super into this book, I do want to know what happens at the end. Once I start something, I have to finish to the end, or I will go crazy myself. As for Light’s dad turning out to be the detective superintendent of the NPA, that is absolutely vital to this story. Son, of the chief, who is investing Kira/Light, I see a lot of confusion, complications, and outrage to arise from this later on.
