The Heroin Diaries p. x-163
"I can't feel my soul. This darkness has become my only friend. My new addiction is drinking tons of water right before I shoot coke, then puking it all up in the Jacuzzi as my head explodes into the stratosphere. Why? Why not? I'm engaged in a dance of death in this house..." Many parts in this section on page 62 stuck out to me because of just how disturbing they were, but this is the one that stuck out to me the most. I know it's sad, but I like how he words "I'm engaged in a dance of death in this house..." I feel really bad for him because of how messed up his childhood was. It's hard to know what exactly happens because his mom will say one thing in the interviews but then Tom will come in and say the complete opposite and talk about just how messed up Nikki's mom was.
Also, in class we talked about the whole Sikki vs. Nikki situation. On page 48 we see Sikki because he's trying to write in his diary right after he just shot up heroin. He can't focus on writing because he's so focused on these voices that he hears when he's high. I like the book and think it's interesting, but I sort of wish there was a little more Sikki so I could get a better idea of what it was actually like while on it but I think what we're seeing more of is Nikki.

I think it is pretty funny how Tom and Nikki's mom go back and fourth on how she really behaved back then and her tendencies. I can't tell either what is the truth but I am going to go ahead a believe Tom. I think Nikki definitely gets his addictive personality from how his childhood was. I couldn't imagine growing up like that and if his mother was really on drugs too that could be a huge part of it. To go along with your post about the Nikki vs Sikki, I really liked how he pointed out how there was a difference in himself and he almost accepted it. I think the book is very interesting and i wish he wrote a bit more while he was on the drugs rather than after or before, just to get more of an effect. I cannot wait to continue reading and learn more about he overcomes his addiction.
ReplyDeleteThe commentary from both Tom and Nikki’s mom is a fascinating way to see the life that Nikki faced as a child. Clearly, his mother is not truthful and does not know the reality of what
ReplyDeletehappened with her son. Tom’s responses appear to be more truthful, and they remain accurate to the side of the story that Nikki perceives. In the battle of Sikki vs. Nikki, I’m shocked that you want to see more of Sikki. Sikki seems to be a complete psychopath who does not care about anybody or anything except for drugs. It’s hard to get a complete understanding of Sikki, because when Nikki is in that state, he is unable to document his experiences. Even though we are unable to have complete insight on Sikki’s personality, I think the fact that Nikki cannot even remember everything that Sikki does shows just how messed up Sikki can be.
