Vision in Silver p. 163-310
Reading the next several chapters helped me get a way better understanding of the book and what's going on. I'm still a little confused on some things that are happening but I'm sure my questions will be answered at some point within the rest of the book. I still don't think I would ever read this book for fun just because it's not really my style, but I am glad that it's starting to pick up and get really interesting.
I think the part that stood out to me most was on page 220 and all the food went bad. Burke asked Tess if something was wrong with the refrigeration system and Tess replied with, "No, something is wrong with the humans in this city." I know that there's always been tension between the humans and the Others, but I just felt like this intensified it so much more after the humans cut off food for the others, and for Meg too even though she's a human. I feel like at this point if you're not part of the HFL then you're just looked at as one of the Others, even if you are a human which is sad. I'm excited to see what happens next in the story especially boo bears jewels and with Lizzy since the Toland police are trying to take Monty's custody of her away. I think the next section we'll be reading will be the most interesting one yet.

I think what you said about any human outside of the HFL is simply seen as an Other. It is kind of along the lines of what Simon said on page 298 which has had me thinking a lot. He said "If the Terra Indigene who work in the Courtyard become to human, do we become the enemy?" I think his overall point in this conversation is the the Others have gotten quite a bit of influence form the human society and he fears that they may start to lose their inherent Terra Indigene-ness. In this same way the humans of the HFL feel that the humans working in the Courtyard or who associate themselves with Others have started to lose their inherent human qualities. Whether this cultural diffusion is good or bad, I don't know, but it is clear that the Terra Indigene and Human cultures are colliding and not everyone is okay with it.
ReplyDeleteI think that this book is hard to get into mostly because it’s in the middle of the series. I still don’t think many of us would’ve chosen to read it because of how it’s written though. It’s definitely one of those books that is mostly boring but has a few very interesting parts here and there that can keep you interested. I was so pissed at the humans when I found out that they were giving the Others spoiled food. I know they had an agreement that the humans didn’t want to break by saying they wouldn’t supply food, but they broke it anyways with the rotten food. It’s not like the Others wouldn’t know what they were doing or that they sent them the bad food on purpose. I do think that the best part of this book are the parts about Lizzy and Boo Bear. The hidden jewels are still a mystery, but Lizzy finding her mother in the bathroom was just about heartbreaking to read.
